Session Access and Participation Rules
A session is a shared workspace where all participants see the same cards and changes. A session is created automatically when you enter, and the host gets control over session settings.
What it is
Core elements
- Session code: a short 6-character code used to join.
- Invite link: a URL with the code that you can send to others.
- Host role: can change deck and room settings and end the session.
- Participants: join via link or code and work with the cards.
- Close session button: a small "X" button in the top-right corner of the session card, visible only to the host.
Participation rules
- Everyone sees changes in real time.
- Only the host can change session settings.
- When the host ends the session, all participants are disconnected.
- A session holds up to 150 participants. That is a lot for therapeutic work: keep the group small enough to give everyone attention.
- A guest can leave on their own with "Leave session" and lands back in a session of their own.
How to use
Steps for the host
- Open the session panel and copy the invite code or link.
- Send the link or code to participants.
- If needed, end the session to start a new one.
Closing a session (host only)
- Click the "X" button in the top-right corner of the session card.
- A confirmation modal will appear with options:
- Save screenshot: toggle this option to save a screenshot of the current table before closing.
- Download: if screenshot is enabled, downloads the image to your device.
- End session: closes the session and disconnects all participants.
- Stay: cancels and keeps the session open.
Closing disconnects everyone
When you close a session, all participants will be disconnected immediately. Make sure to save any important work before closing.
Steps for a participant
- Open the link or click "Join" and enter the 6-character code.
- Wait until the status changes to "Connected".
- Work with cards together with the host.
Switching sessions
When you try to join a different session while already in one, a confirmation dialog appears:
- The dialog warns you that switching will clear your current work.
- Save screenshot option: toggle this to save a screenshot of your current table before switching.
- Switch: confirms the switch and takes you to the new session.
- Cancel: keeps you in the current session.
Save your work
Always enable the screenshot option before switching sessions if you want to keep a record of your current layout.
Scenarios
- Quick invite: share the link and the participant joins immediately.
- Return later: save the code or link and reuse it.
- Switch sessions: choose "Join another session" and enter a new code.
- End and restart: host closes the session and creates a new one for a fresh start.
Private mode and session password
By default anyone with the code or the link can join. Two controls in the "Session" panel change that. Both are host-only.
Private mode
The "Private" button closes the session to casual joins: a private session shows a "Private" badge next to the code, and decks that their authors marked private only work here.
- Requires a signed-in account. Anonymous users see the hint "Sign in to use private mode".
- Turning it on disconnects everyone currently in the session, so switch it on before you invite a client. The app asks for confirmation.
- Turning it off warns you if the table holds a deck that is private-only: that deck and its cards will be removed from the table.
Session password
The "Password" button adds a second factor to the code: a participant enters the code, then the password.
- Available to PRO and Premium. Everyone else sees the hint "Available for PRO and Premium users".
- Only the host can set or remove the password.
- A participant who types the wrong password sees "Wrong password" and can try again.
- A password is required for persistent sessions: remove it and the session stops being persistent (see Rooms and persistent sessions).
Session rules
The "Settings" tab of the right-hand panel holds a "Rules" block. It changes what participants may do on the shared table. Only the host sets rules; they apply immediately and to everyone.
| Rule | What it does | Who can set it |
|---|---|---|
| Disable chat | Participants cannot send messages | Signed-in users |
| Hide participant cursors | Other participants' cursors are not shown | PRO and Premium |
| Move own items only | A participant moves only their own cards and notes | PRO and Premium |
| Deal word cards | Include word cards when drawing from the deck | Any host |
| Disable card merge | A word card does not merge with a picture on the table | Any host |
Below the rules sits an "Actions" block with the "End session" button.
When the host disables chat, participants see the line "Chat disabled by the host" in its place.
Timer
The Settings tab of the right panel has a Timer block. The host picks a length - 1, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes - and a countdown plate appears at the top of the screen for everyone in the session.
What it is for: giving the group silent thinking time, holding the frame of a technique step without watching the clock, or keeping self-guided work from running twice as long as intended.
- Only the host starts and removes it. Participants see the plate but cannot control it.
- Hiding the plate does not stop the countdown. Time keeps running; turn the display back on and you see the time that would have been running anyway.
- There is no pause and no extend. Need more time - start the timer again for the length you need, and it replaces the current one.
- At zero the plate blinks and stays at 00:00 until the host removes it. That way it is clear the time ran out rather than never started.
- There is no sound. The digits are white while it runs, the last ten seconds turn yellow, zero blinks red and then settles to grey.
- In the simplified right panel the timer takes one row: the four most common lengths (1, 5, 10 and 15 minutes) and a remove button. The full set is in the Settings tab.
- Someone joining mid-countdown sees the correct remaining time straight away.
- The timer belongs to this meeting: a persistent session reopens without it.
When the host drops out
A closed tab or a lost Wi-Fi connection does not close the session right away. The room waits for the host for up to five minutes; guests see a "Host is away" notice and the table becomes read-only. If the host does not come back, the session closes. Details are in Rooms and persistent sessions.
When you already have an open session
If you create a new session while a previous one is still alive, an "Active session found" dialog appears:
- "Switch to ABC123" returns you to that session.
- "Close and create a new one" closes the old one and starts from an empty table.
The dialog distinguishes two cases: the session is open on this device, or on another device under the same account.
Tips and errors
- If the code is rejected, check the length (6 characters) and keyboard layout.
- Switching sessions clears current cards and notes, but you can save a table screenshot before moving on.
- If the host ended the session, create a new one.
- The close session button is only visible to the host - participants cannot end sessions.
