Rooms and Persistent Sessions

A room is the visual environment of the table (background and boundaries). It defines whether the workspace is infinite or bounded. All participants in the session see the same room and the same shared canvas.

This page also covers how a session survives a page reload. Access codes, private mode and participation rules live in Session access and participation rules.

What it is

Core elements

  • Room: the background and rules of the workspace.
  • Shared canvas: one space where everyone works together.
  • Room types: the group table (unbounded) and self-reflection rooms (bounded).

How it works

  • The host selects a room and all participants see the change.
  • Bounded rooms have a visible frame, and items stay inside it.
  • When switching rooms, objects adapt to the new boundaries.

How to use

Key steps

  1. Open the settings panel and switch to the "Room" tab.
  2. Choose a room using the thumbnail and description.
  3. Continue working on the shared canvas - changes sync for everyone.

Scenarios

  • Group work: use the infinite group table for large layouts.
  • Focused practice: choose a bounded room to keep attention inside the frame.
  • Different stages: switch rooms to change the mood of the exercise.

If the host loses connection

A dropped Wi-Fi or a closed tab does not end the session immediately. We hold the room open for up to five minutes so the host can rejoin without losing the layout. Guests stay in the room while the timer runs; the canvas is read-only until the host is back. If five minutes pass without the host returning, the session closes and guests are sent home with a notice.

If you are the host and you know you have to step away, just close the tab – the guests will see a "host is back soon" badge and your cards stay in place. To end the session for real, use End session from the menu instead.

Persistent sessions

Users with a Premium subscription or a PRO badge can make a session persistent and come back to it later. The tab is called "Persistent" and sits second in the left panel; the label shows how many slots are in use.

How to save a session

  1. Open the "Persistent" tab and click "Save session".
  2. Give it a title and a password: without a password the session does not become persistent.
  3. The session is saved with every object on the table: cards, notes, tokens, the die, collectible items.

The password is required

A persistent session lives behind its code for weeks, so sooner or later a code without a password ends up in the wrong hands. Removing the password keeps the session working but stops it being persistent, and the app says so.

Slot limits

  • Premium – up to 20 persistent sessions.
  • PRO – up to 5.
  • Without a subscription the tab is visible but disabled, with the hint "Available for PRO and Premium users".

When the slots run out, the app shows "No free slots" and the used/total count. Free one up by removing a session from persistent storage.

Returning to a session

  1. Open the "Persistent" tab.
  2. Pick a session and click "Switch".
  3. The table loads exactly as you left it.
  4. The participant list will be empty: people rejoin with the code.

Managing them

  • "Remove" takes the session out of persistent storage and frees the slot. The session itself keeps running.
  • Table state syncs automatically, roughly once a minute.
  • The status of the current session ("Persistent" or "Temporary") is shown in the same tab.

Tips and errors

  • If switching is disabled, you are not the host.
  • After a room change, cards may shift - the system keeps them inside the bounds.
  • In bounded rooms, zoom out to keep the full frame in view.
  • Persistent sessions require authentication and a Premium or PRO status.
  • If you removed the password, check the session status: it has become temporary.
